How to Use

Paste configuration data in TOML, INI, Java .properties, .env, YAML, or JSON format. Select the source format (or leave on Auto-Detect) and choose your target configuration format to convert instantly with optional dot-key flattening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which configuration formats can this tool convert between?

This converter supports full bidirectional translation across six industry-standard formats: TOML (.toml), INI (.ini / .cfg), Java Properties (.properties), Dotenv (.env), YAML (.yaml / .yml), and JSON (.json).

How does automatic source format detection work?

When set to Auto-Detect, the parser inspects structural signatures such as curly braces for JSON, section headers like [server] or [[array]] for TOML and INI, UPPER_SNAKE_CASE=value patterns for .env, dotted keys for Java .properties, and indented mappings for YAML.

What is the difference between TOML and INI files?

TOML (Tom's Obvious, Minimal Language) has a formal specification with strict data types including quoted strings, booleans, integers, floats, arrays, inline tables, and RFC 3339 timestamps. INI files are loosely structured key-value sections without standardized arrays or nested data types.

How are nested JSON or YAML objects converted to .env files?

Because .env files only support flat environment variables, nested hierarchy paths like server.database.port are automatically joined with underscores and uppercased into SERVER_DATABASE_PORT=5432, and conversely unflattened when converting back to hierarchical formats.

What does the Flatten Keys (a.b.c) option do?

Enabling Flatten Keys collapses deeply nested objects into single-level dot-separated paths (such as database.pool.max_connections = 100). When unchecked, dot-separated keys in .properties or flat JSON are automatically expanded into nested objects.

Does the TOML parser support arrays of tables and inline tables?

Yes. The built-in TOML engine parses standard [table.subtable] sections, [[array_of_tables]] blocks, inline tables like { host = "localhost", port = 6379 }, multi-line arrays, booleans, and numeric literals.

How are Java .properties Unicode escapes and separators handled?

The Java .properties parser supports both = and : key-value delimiters, # and ! comment lines, backslash line continuations, and automatic decoding of \uXXXX hexadecimal Unicode escape sequences.

Are data types like booleans and numbers preserved during conversion?

Yes. Booleans (true/false), integers, floating-point numbers, arrays, and null values are preserved natively in JSON, YAML, and TOML, and automatically inferred when parsing from INI, .properties, and .env files.

Can I sort configuration keys alphabetically?

Yes. Checking the Sort Keys A-Z option recursively orders all section headers and property keys alphabetically, making it easy to compare configuration files across staging and production environments in Git diffs.

Are my secret API keys or .env credentials sent to any server?

Never. All configuration parsing and serialization happen 100% locally inside your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your database passwords, .env secrets, and API tokens never leave your device.
